In the novel The Boy In The Striped Pajamas by John Boyne there are a few main characters I am going to tell you about. The first character I am going to tell you about is Bruno. Bruno is a nine year old boy who lives in a very nice house in Berlin (Boyne page 11). Bruno is adventurous and with his friends in Berlin they explore his house and the city of Berlin. Bruno has to move to a new place in the middle of nowhere called Out-With (Boyne page 24). The second person I am going to tell you about is Shmuel the boy on the other side of the fence. Bruno met him one day while he was exploring at his new house. Shmuel is a very small, skinny, and he did not have any shoes so his feet were very dirty (Boyne page 106). The boy was much smaller than Bruno, but after talking to him for a while and getting to know him they found out that they were the exact same age. They would become good friends and talk almost everyday. The third person is Bruno’s father. Bruno’s father was a was a very important man in the German army. He worked a lot and his office was off limits to Bruno and his sister at all times, no exceptions. His father had people come to their house for dinner every once and awhile and many times, once Bruno and his sister were done eating, they were sent to their rooms. When they lived in Berlin their house was very big and they knew many people. But Bruno’s Father was offered new job and he took it. They moved to a small, old house that had a lot less room than their old one and it was right on the edge of a great big fence that went on in either direction for many miles. And that is where Bruno’s adventure began.
